Position: South African National Rowing Head Coach
Location: South Africa (national and international travel required)

Rowing South Africa is seeking to appoint a highly skilled, motivated, and experienced National Head Coach to lead and drive the performance of the national rowing programme. The successful candidate will play a central role in developing athletes and crews capable of achieving sustained success on the international stage.

The ideal candidate must hold recognised FISA (World Rowing) coaching qualifications and demonstrate a strong, practical understanding of exercise physiology, human anatomy, and performance science, with the ability to apply this knowledge to optimise athlete health, conditioning, and race performance. A deep and up-to-date understanding of modern rowing technique, rigging, training methodologies, and data-driven performance analysis is essential.

This role requires a coach who can work effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment—collaborating with athletes, support staff, administrators, and high-performance partners—while also being self-sufficient, proactive, and capable of operating independently when required.

Applicants must have a proven track record of coaching successful crews at international level, with experience working with U23 athletes or higher as a minimum requirement. Demonstrated ability to plan long-term athlete development, manage high-performance programmes, and prepare crews for World Championships, Olympic qualification pathways, and major international regattas will be highly advantageous.

Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills are essential, along with a commitment to ethical coaching, athlete welfare, and excellence.

Rowing South Africa offers the opportunity to shape the future of South African rowing and
build a programme capable of consistent international success.
