Short Note on Ken Lee’s Cape Town visit:

As the Ambassador/Leader of GCRA (Global Canal Rowing Action), Ken Lee embarked on a visit to Cape Town and South Africa to promote rowing and sustainability. GCRA’s mission centers around achieving zero carbon emissions and ensuring clean water. Ken Lee’s itinerary spans six countries, commencing from the southern tip of Africa.

On Monday, at 4 pm, a warm welcome awaited Ken Lee at the Zeekoevlei Yacht Club, which houses several rowing clubs. Teenage rowers from Bishops College and Grassy Park Rowing Club, aged around 15, actively participated in training sessions. The crews eagerly hosted a Master rower from the Asian Rowing Federation, with Ken Lee rowing in both the girls’ and boys’ quads. Post-session, rowers gathered to sign a banner in support of “Rowing on Clean Water Action,” resonating with their concerns about Cape Town’s water challenges. Enthusiastic photos captured the spirit of the rowers and their interaction with Ken Lee.

On Tuesday morning, at 7 am, Ken Lee met with members of the Cape Coastal Rowing Club at the False Bay Yacht Club in Simon’s Town. Rowing in an ocean coxed quad, they covered a scenic 10 km route, passing by the Boulders penguin colony and a playful seal. Arriving midway, the opportunity for a refreshing swim in the cool morning seawater provided a unique healing session. Club members joined in signing the Clean Water Action banner. After cleaning and storing the boats, Ken Lee and his wife were invited for breakfast on the grass terrace. The exchange of gifts, contact details, and discussions about rowing and travel opportunities enhanced the overall experience.

Ken Gliddon, leading Western Cape Rowing, expresses gratitude for hosting Ken Lee, an advocate for clean water, sustainability, and the sport of rowing. They appreciate the opportunity and thank him for his unwavering commitment to these crucial causes.
